Airbnb vs. Booking.com

A

Airbnb became popular with the rise of the travel industry in the past decade. What started as an air bed for rent idea has become a multi-billion dollar company. Its platform caters to travelers looking for affordable properties for rent in destinations all over the world. Booking.com, on the other hand, paved the way to internet-assisted travel as we know it today. It offers a one-stop-shop for all your travel needs, from booking flights to hotel reservations and car rentals, everything you need for your domestic or international trip; you can do it all on their website.

It is easy to think that both websites are two peas in the same pod. However, both have their similarities and differences, and each has its pros and cons. For one, Airbnb’s business focuses on property hosting and rentals, while Booking.com is an online travel agency.

Differences and Similarities

•Lodging-Airbnb is a platform for property rental and space sharing, while Booking.com focuses its listing on hotels. However, booking a homestay or space sharing can be done on Booking.com as well.

•Payment –For a reservation to push through in Airbnb, guests have to pay in advance. Meanwhile, reservations done on Booking.com do not ask for upfront payment.

•Deals –Booking.com has special deals if you book in advance and most hotels and motels give special discounts for reservations done on the website. Properties on Airbnb, on the other hand, do not have outright deals.

•Security –While most properties listed are secured, leaving your safety in the hands of trained security professionals of a hotel will give you a better night’s sleep.

•Ambiance –Budget hotels in booking.com can be just a plain room with a bed. On the other hand, Airbnb offers unique places to stay, better furnished and facilities like a kitchen and laundry area.
